Ken Hellendall - (The Representative Principal) began in the law enforcement sales industry in 1979 after several years as a Police Officer. He worked for distributors, calling on Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Service agencies throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In 1990, he became a manufacturer’s representative working as a sub - representative covering a territory from Northern Virginia through New Jersey. In October of 1992, Ken left that firm and started Keystone Associates Unlimited (which later, when incorporated, became Keystone Mid - Atlantic, Inc.). Keystone began handling only two manufacturers.
We had simple goals and objectives when we began Keystone in 1992. As Keystone Mid-Atlantic, Inc. has grown, we continue to follow these guidelines. A good manufacturer’s representative should not carry more than a few lines. By keeping our number of lines small, we are able to specialize our efforts and be well educated on the products we represent. Additionally, a public safety official or distributor does not have the time or inclination to listen to a representative with too many product lines.
From our inception, we believed that a strong support staff was essential. We currently maintain a full-time office staff, who answer telephones, assist our sales representatives, and insure that customers can reach a “real person”, rather than an answering machine.
Keystone Mid - Atlantic now covers Northern Virginia, The District of Columbia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, and GSA.
Our fulltime staff includes eight (8) full time sales representatives, two (2) part time Sales Reps, full time office/support staff and a training coordinator. Each representative is required to maintain his or her own demonstration vehicle. Public Safety Officials like to see and touch the products they intend to purchase.
In addition to Ken Hellendall's duties with Keystone, he is the Director of the Emergency Medical Service in Cheltenham Township Pennsylvania and also the Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator. He has been married to Nancy for eighteen years and they have three children.
